Benefits of Dulse

Nutrition:

Dulse is an edible seaweed. Available fresh and is usually packed in salt, Dulse can be baked, stir-fried or added to smoothies, soups and salads.

Dulse is low in calories, contains protein and high in nutrients including plant-based iron.

Health:

Dulse is a rich source of calcium, iron, and magnesium. These minerals can help in contributing to bone mineral density and vital in building strong bones .

One of the most important health benefits of seaweed, including Dulse, is its contribution to good thyroid health. It contains very high levels of iodine which is vital in a healthy functioning thyroid gland.

Vegan Friendly

Eating Dulse is an excellent way for vegans or people who don’t eat animal foods to get sufficient vitamin B-12. A 3.5-ounce portion of fresh Dulse contains 6.6 micrograms of vitamin B-12, which is more than 100 percent of the daily value set by the FDA. This vitamin assists in making new cells and breaking down some fatty acids and amino acids.

What is Carragheen Moss:

When wet Carrageen Moss is sometimes almost translucent, and when dried it forms small, sharp nobbily spines.

Carrageen moss contains essential trace minerals like sulphur, iron, zinc, phosphorus and selenium, as well as potassium, calcium and magnesium.

Benefits of Carragheen Moss:

One of the most well-known carrageen moss health benefits is its ability to soothe and repair mucus membranes in the chest and digestive tract. This makes carrageen moss useful for treating pneumonia, bronchitis and chest colds, as well as digestive disorders like gastritis and ulcers

With natural antibacterial and antiviral properties, carrageen moss has been studied for its use in treating viral and bacterial infections.

Using carrageen moss as a skin care product can also naturally help contribute to helping with the healing of eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and other skin ailments like burns and scars.

Carrageen is used most often in cookery, to make a delicious mousse that has long been thought of as a cure for stomach problems.   Many Irish children will have memories of being fed Carrageen from a young age whenever they were ill.

Sea Spaghetti:

Sea Spaghetti maybe cut into strips or small pieces using scissors while the sea spaghetti is still dry.

Blanch sea spaghetti in boiling water for approx. 5mins until tender.

Gentle make crisp under the grill to serve as a crispy snack

To use in salads simply soak in water, cider vinegar or white vinegar.

Stir fry’s ,soak in water briefly then add to stir fry with other ingredients and cook as normal.

A colourful mix of Dulse, Sweet Kombu, Spirulina, Sea Spaggetti and Nori

Sea Bath & Skin Pads:

Harvested from the clean fresh Atlantic Sea of the North West Coast.

This seaweed known as ‘fucus serratus’, has been selected for its ability to release its natural oils into the comfort of your own bath. Simply soak the sponge in a container of warm water or directly into a warm bath , for 5-10mins to release the natural oils.

The sponge maybe revived up to three times within one week of opening.

The sea baths are particularly beneficial contributing to helping to health skin sores.
